How to WhatsApp Someone Without Saving Their Number
Need to message a WhatsApp number without saving it as a contact? Open the chat directly with a wa.me link, or paste the number into Veyo and open the chat in one tap.
Open a chat with a wa.me link
wa.me is WhatsApp's official way to open chats from a link. Type the number with its country code, leaving out the +, spaces, and dashes. For an Indonesian number, swap the leading 0 for 62:
0812-3456-7890 → 6281234567890 → wa.me/6281234567890
Enter wa.me/6281234567890 in your browser and the WhatsApp chat opens right away. The same rule works for any country — just use the matching country code. On a phone, the link opens the WhatsApp app; on a laptop without the app, it opens via WhatsApp Web.
Chat without saving the number, using Veyo
Rather not build links by hand? Paste the number — or any text containing it — into Veyo. Veyo finds the number, then you tap once to open the chat in WhatsApp.
This helps most when the number is still in local format or buried in other text, like a forwarded message or a note on a flyer.
Your contacts stay clean because nothing new gets saved. Veyo runs in the browser — no account, and no access to your contacts. Numbers you paste are processed directly on your device. It works the same on iPhone, Android, and laptop browsers.
Open a chat with a pre-filled message
Add ?text= after the link to open the chat with a message already typed in. Example:
wa.me/6281234567890?text=Hi%2C%20is%20this%20still%20available
“Hi, is this still available” appears as a draft in the chat box. The message is only filled in — you still press send yourself.
Spaces become %20 and commas become %2C in the link — write your message normally, then replace each space with %20 before pasting it into the link.
Swap the sample text for your own message, such as an order confirmation or a greeting for customers. A pre-filled message saves time on repeat questions, like asking about stock or prices.
If the link won't open
Check these four things, then reload the link:
- The number still starts with 0 — swap the leading 0 for the country code, 62 for Indonesia.
- Strip out any +, spaces, and dashes from the number.
- Make sure WhatsApp is installed and can open links on your device or browser.
- If the number isn't registered on WhatsApp, the link can't open a conversation.
If everything looks right and the chat still won't open, the number most likely isn't on WhatsApp. If unsure, paste the digits into Veyo to re-check the format before giving up.
